These are particularly important to me not just because they’re the first series of my own work to come out of the studio but because they represent something.
Covered in marks, drips, miss prints and mistakes, it’s an interesting challenge is to capture an image without destroying the spirit. There’s a good analogy with recorded music and print, the best stuff isn’t overproduced, it’s raw.
This artwork is something I made last year during a difficult time while juggling parenting, work, moving across the country. We all know the feeling of trying to maintain composure while frantically paddling to stay afloat.
I’m putting a few of on my website this week - the paintings of which I made four of last year are all gone. These will be the last in this series.
